A practical Outbreak Command guide explaining the three virus slots, every DNA upgrade, how to read region properties, how to use the intel popup, and how to choose the next DNA upgrade from heat, cold, healthcare, mobility and density.
You command three independent fictional virus slots on a randomly generated region network. The goal is not to click every DNA button as soon as possible; the goal is to spread into enough regions before detection, route closures and cure research make expansion impossible.
Each run ends when all active outbreaks are contained/cured, fizzle out, or the response collapses under deaths and spread. A good run usually has three phases: quiet spread, adaptation to hard regions, then late severity/lethality.
The three virus chips at the top are Prism Fever, Ghost Mist and Tide Speck. They are separate evolution lines: each has its own DNA levels, infection/death numbers by region, detection state and cure progress. They do not currently have hidden innate bonuses; their 'personality' is created by the DNA path you choose.
The percentage on each chip is that virus's cure progress. If one chip is being cured quickly, stop making it louder with symptoms and invest in Drug Escape or Stealth, or switch to a quieter virus slot to keep spreading.

Use this table as the main upgrade cheat sheet. Early levels are cheap; later levels are expensive, so buying the right family matters more than maxing one track blindly.

Tap a region after the outbreak starts to open the intel popup. It shows public population, Heat, Cold, Healthcare and Mobility, plus a confidence bar for each trait. A value can be Unknown even if the confidence bar is partly filled; tapping and letting infections run improves intel over time.

The game recommendation is not flavor text. It checks the selected virus against the selected region and picks the biggest visible blocker.

Before the run starts, the gold suggestion box recommends a start based on public population, mobility, local spread and lower healthcare. This is usually a good beginner start because it balances growth with lower immediate medical pressure.
If you choose manually, prefer a region with several open routes, high population, high mobility, and not-too-high healthcare. Avoid starting in a rich medical fortress unless you plan to buy Stealth and Drug Escape early.
After seeding, immediately tap the starting region to inspect it. Your first two upgrades should come from what you see: Aerosol for high mobility/air links, Water Shell for sea links, Vector Hosts for density or unknown maps, Heat/Cold if the environment is obviously hostile.
Pick the opener from the map instead of memorizing one universal order.

Blue routes are air routes and green routes are sea routes. Open routes move infection between regions; closed routes stop future cross-region spread on that link.
Public panic rises from infection, deaths and severity, and Stealth reduces this pressure. When panic climbs, the AI can close routes based on route traffic and the connected regions' wealth/healthcare. This is why early Organ Damage often loses: it creates panic before the map is seeded.
Your timing target is simple: get multiple regions infected while routes are open, then adapt to the hardest climates/healthcare, then add symptoms and lethality.
Use this as an in-run checklist after the first two or three upgrades.
